Bloom UWA: Access Entrepreneurship
St Catherine's College
6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Did you know that 14% of people living with a disability own their own business compared to 10% of the general population?   In part, this can be explained by barriers to traditional pathways to work. But with rapid advances in technology, initiatives in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and innovation in the disability sector there are more and more opportunities for people living with a disability to pursue entrepreneurship as an alternate pathway to employment.   At Bloom UWA we believe that entrepreneurship should be accessible to everyone. With our networking event 'Access Entrepreneurship' we hope to inspire young people living with a disability to pursue entrepreneurship as an alternative pathway to work, encourage innovation in the disability sector, and help make the Perth startup community more accessible.   We invite you to join us for 'Access Entrepreneurship' where, over drinks and cheese platters, you will hear from successful members of the Perth startup community who are living with a disability and innovative individuals from the disability sector about the projects they are working on. We will explore opportunities in the space and how young people living with a disability, or young people interested in the disability sector can become more involved. In attendance, there will be mentors from the Perth startup community, disability sector, University, and young people living with a disability or young people who want to learn more about how they can help make entrepreneurship more accessible. Accessibility Information: Access Entrepreneurship will be held in the Seminar Room of St Catherine's College. This is on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible from the Park Rd entrance. There will spacious parking facilities available and disabled access toilets next to the room. If there are presentation slides and documents they can be made available beforehand in an accessible format upon request. If you require an interpreter one will be made available.    For more information or if you have any special requirements to attend or any suggestions you would like to make regarding the event please email Julian@bloom.org.au or call on 0404842354

Failing Your Way to A Nobel Prize With Barry Marshall
Bloom, St Catherine's College, 2 Park Road, Perth, Western Australia 6009
5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
This is a FREE Bloom event.   Nothing puts a stop to good ideas like the fear of failure. All too often we spend time celebrating the incredible successes of amazing entrepreneurs - let's instead talk about their stuffups.   Join us as UWA researcher, Nobel Prize winner and entrepreneur Professor Barry Marshall (yes, the guy on the library) shares his story of failure - without the fairytale ending.   We'll talk openly and honestly about stuffups, bad decisions, what went wrong, what was learned and what may have been done differently - all in the hopes of showing that making the jump to starting something shouldn't be held back by fear of crashing and burning.   Event Rundown: 5:00 - 5:10 - Introduction & welcome 5:10 - 5:40 - Barry's presentation 5:40 - 6:00 - Q&A   ================================================ ABOUT BLOOM: Bloom is a community of young people creating amazing things.
