Websites! In today's increasingly online community, they are an essential part of any entrepreneur/businesses marketing toolkit. It's very often the case that when bootstrapping your own business, you want to get the word out there and build a website without spending thousands of web design companies. Well with today's workshop, you'll be well on your way to creating your own websites from only $50/year. For 1 hour on Monday afternoon, we will be running an interactive workshop on Squarespace where you'll learn how to; - Get a 50% student discount on their web hosting - Create a basic landing page for a personal page - Create a number of different pages and link them together - Add images, calendars and interactive sections to your pages to make it stick out. - Discuss Search Engine Optimisation and Metrics. Brainstorming. What jumps to mind? A whiteboard, some coloured markers, maybe some post-its? SPARK Co-Lab Design Course has teamed up with Bloom to bring you "Brainstorming & SPARKing in Silicon Valley". Redefine your understanding of brainstorming, learn the rules of successful brainstorming and put your new brainstorming skills into practice immediately! This is a skill set you don't want to miss out on (plus we are in the process of gathering a lot of cool thing for you to play with on the day). The event has 2 parts: - 1600-1700: Seminars - "The Stanford SPARK approach for students" by Kevin Grimes and "Effective brainstorming" (40 places - register: http://tdy.cl/e/6MV1nx8) - 1700-1800: Brainstorming (limited to 25 places or 5 teams). This is where you register for one of the 25 places.

If you have a business based idea to make the world a better place, either by starting something new or transforming the operations of an existing not-for-profit, this is the competition for you.  The competition requires you to enter as interdiciplinary teams of 4-6 people. Bloom is here to support you in developing your idea along the way and to kick off we are running an information session. Come along to find out more and meet potential team members! Have an idea or innovation that uses location data, and want to learn from the experts about what it takes to turn your idea into a thriving high growth business? You are invited to an information session to find out how this could become a reality and how you could be fully sponsored through a world class entrepreneurial education program. The Curtin Ignition Program is an intensive one week education program for aspiring entrepreneurs, academics and corporate innovators to trial and then prepare business ideas for the commercial environment. SPUR, powered by Landgate, is sponsoring one delegate on the 2016 Program. You will need an idea that involves the use (or potential use) of location data, and a passion for developing that idea into a real business proposition. Come along to the Bloom Lab to hear more details about the Curtin Ignition Program, the Landgate scholarship, and the use of location data in business. Innovating Medical Devices in Silicon Valley: Could We Bring Stanford To Perth?

What makes Silicon Valley the medical technology mecca? How can innovators in Perth tap into the success of this area? Assoc. Prof. Peter Santa Maria will talk about his own journey from academic surgeon scientist to inventor and entrepreneur in the Bay Area. If you have a medical, engineering or business background, and want to create something and learn the process of medical innovation; there are some new opportunities launching in Perth to develop an idea to start-up and be part of the next wave of medical technology innovation. Here is some more about Assoc. Prof. Peter Santa Maria: Assoc. Prof. Peter Santa Maria is a clinician scientist with a focus on translational medicine and commercializing medtech and biopharma. Originally from Perth where completed his ENT training and PhD, he returned from three years on faculty at Stanford University to Perth in 2015 to become a founder of SPARK Co-Lab, a medical research discovery and innovation accelerator affiliated with Stanford in Perth. He is a founder of two medical start-ups, Flotherm, a medical device company and Auration Biotech, an ear pharmaceutical company. He continues to consult for a number of Bay Area and Australian medical start-ups. Don't let the study stress get you down! Yu Consultants have teamed up with Spectrum Yoga to provide a free outdoor yoga session to Bloom members during study week. The session will be run by Millie, the founder of Spectrum Yoga. Millie is fully qualified and has over ten years of experience.  – Where: the main courtyard at St Catherines College – Dress: exercise clothes – Bring: yoga mat or towel Here is some more about Millie: Amelia Ross, known to her friends and clients as Millie, is a 200 hr RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance International). Amelia is based in Western Australia’s yoga mecca, the beautiful Port City of Fremantle. Her journey with yoga began ten years ago and since then she has studied and practiced Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, in Perth, Sydney, India, America, Costa Rica, Argentina and Indonesia. After becoming certified as a Kid’s Yoga teacher with Rainbow Kid’s Yoga in 2013, she developed the yoga program at YMCA Camp Fuller in Rhode Island, USA, which inspired her passion for moving and stretching outdoors. Her love for the flow of Vinyasa yoga inspired her natural progression into the profession. She trained in Costa Rica with LAGO CPH’s Peter Kaaberol Kristensen, and is an accredited Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, a skill which she incorporates into her classes with hands on adjustments. Whether you are a complete beginner, intermediate or advanced, Millie will guide you through the yoga practice leaving you feeling relaxed and energised. This is a FREE event!

About Looking for a fun night of drinking, food and a chance to pocket some cash? Come along to Bloom's Micro Pitch night where attendees will get the opportunity to 'micro' pitch an idea, no matter how crazy, in 30 seconds or less and potentially take home a cash prize! How the night will run All attendees will pay a minimum of $5 at the door and are encouraged to come forward and pitch an idea in 30 seconds or less. The crowd will then vote on the idea they like best over complementary food and beverages with the most votes taking home the cash that was made at the door. Drinks can be continued afterwards at the Curtin tavern. Winners will also receive a FREE annual student Australian Computer Society membership valued at $70.00. No matter what industry you work in, whether it is law, the arts, or science, everyone today should be learning how to code if they want to keep up with the times. Utilising the free online tool codecademy, this session will cover the basics of the programming language Python which is a general purpose language that can be used to do everything from creating games to making websites like Instagram. Our experienced presenters will guide attendees through the online material as well as answer any questions you may have. We hope to see you at this exciting event. This is a workshop style event with LIMITED NUMBERS. Only those with a ticket will be able to attend. Attendees will be required to bring along their own laptops.
