Michael Winlo is the CEO at Linear Clinical Research Ltd based in Perth, Western Australia. Linear Clinical Research specializes in the conduct of early phase clinical trials and has a US $9.5 million purpose built phase I facility to support first in human through to phase II clinical trials. They have extensive experience in conducting both healthy volunteer and patient phase I trials, including Adaptive Healthy Volunteer / Patient Protocol Designs. Prior to this role Michael had positions as the health lead, deployment strategist and business culitvation engineer at Palantir Technologies based in the US which one of the largest privately held computer software companies in the world which was founded by various ex PayPal founders such as Peter Thiel.  Michael holds an Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Western Australia as well as an MBA from Standford University Graduate School of Business. Michael and his best friend from medical school founded Cerulean Medical in 2007 In response to what they thought were egregious pricing strategies by established and incumbent wound care companies, they developed a low-cost, active wound care device with a small amount of venture capital to develop their ideas. To learn how the pros do it, join BCG consultant Grant Gilmour and members of the BCG Digital Ventures team in a presentation covering both the theory and frameworks used in approaching problems creatively, and a number of interactive activities applying them. Websites! In today's increasingly online community, they are an essential part of any entrepreneur/businesses marketing toolkit. It's very often the case that when bootstrapping your own business, you want to get the word out there and build a website without spending thousands of web design companies. Well with today's workshop, you'll be well on your way to creating your own websites from only $50/year. For 1 hour on Monday afternoon, we will be running an interactive workshop on Squarespace where you'll learn how to; - Get a 50% student discount on their web hosting - Create a basic landing page for a personal page - Create a number of different pages and link them together - Add images, calendars and interactive sections to your pages to make it stick out. - Discuss Search Engine Optimisation and Metrics. Phylogica is a leading peptide drug discovery company that utilises proprietary Phylomer peptide libraries and screening methodologies to identify unique peptide drug candidates for its pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners. Speakers at the event Richard Hopkins CEO of Phylogica Richard is a founder of Phylogica and is currently the CEO. His most recent research is focussed on engineering peptide leads for drug development. He has published over 20 peer reviewed papers and is a co-inventor on over 10 patent applications, several of which have been issued in the US and Europe. Previously Richard carried out postdoctoral research in yeast genetics at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research (now Telethon Kids Institute), Perth, Western Australia. His research focussed on the development of a novel class of peptides, trademarked by Phylogica as Phylomers® and the methods to integrate them into various high throughput screening platforms such as yeast- two-hybrid and phage display. Richard has a BSc (Hons) and completed a PhD in Molecular Parasitiology. Paul Watt CSO of Phylogica Paul is a founder and the CSO of Phylogica and is the principal inventor of Phylogica’s drug discovery technologies. He has published more than 48 peer reviewed papers, and has filed more than 22 patent applications many of which are granted in the US and Europe. Specialising in drug discovery biotechnology and experimental genetics, he has attracted over A$5 million in research funding from Australia and the United States to develop the technology underpinning Phylogica. Previously Paul founded InfaMed Ltd., now owned by Cambridge, UK-based Avita Medical Ltd.   They are commercialising an FDA-approved / CE-marked paediatric drug delivery device that he invented, which is currently being marketed internationally. He was also an Honorary Research Fellow at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research (now Telethon Kids Institute), Perth, Western Australia and was appointed Adjunct Professor at the School of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Western Australia. Paul carried out postdoctoral research in yeast genetics at Harvard and Oxford Universities, where he discovered and characterised proteins involved in maintaining genome stability. He has a DPhil in Molecular Biology from Oxford University and BSc (Hons) from the University of Western Australia.

Bombora is developing an award winning Wave Energy Converter system, converting ocean swell into cost effective renewable electricity. By having a low cost of electricity (comparable with onshore wind at maturity) achieved through their initial near shore location and multiple market access, increased survivability, lower associated infrastructure costs and shielded power take off design, Bombora has overcome the deficiencies of existing technology developers.   About our speaker   Shawn Ryan has over 12 years of experience as a consulting engineer, across a variety of industry sectors including, mining, oil and gas and heavy industry (power generation and petrochemical).   His technical and contract management skills have been developed as a Package Engineer and Project Manager on various EPCM projects, having delivered multimillion dollar, multidiscipline contract packages to specification, on time and within budgets for companies such as SKM, Rio Tinto Iron Ore, JP Kenny, Khalda Petroleum (Apache Energy), Aibel Oil and Gas, Burrup Fertilisers, Perth Energy and Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Shawn is well versed in the all forms of project execution from concept development, design, and specification through to contract implementation and administration.   His recent experience was to package engineer $40M of mechanical equipment from project concept through to commissioning for Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Cape Lambert Upgrade. Dylan, a Bloom Member and co-founder of VeriVote will be telling you how you can fund you company using equity, or slicing pie. Slicing pie means that you pay people who help your startup with equity, rather than cash. However, there is an art-form to slicing the pie fairly to make sure everyone is fairly compensated. Dylan will discuss the process of slicing pie and how to do it to achieve the best results for your startup. This is a FREE Bloom event.
